Demineralization ( DM ) Water Treatment Plants. Demineralization is the process of removing mineral salts from Water by using the ion exchange process. Demineralised Water is Water completely free ( or almost ) of dissolved minerals as a result of one of the following processes : Distillation.

Demineralisation process involves removal of minerals by means of Ion Exchange Resins. Demineralization of water is achieved by passing water through Cation Resin Column and then though Anion Resin Column. When minerals, which are salts of acid and base, dissolve in water, they get ionized in to Cations and Anions.

Demineralized water is often used to sanitize containers and equipment. It is also used in certain food processing applications, although membrane filtration is usually the technology used so organic material, bacteria, viruses, etc., can be eliminated.
Impurities or additives in the water will reduce the life and performance of the battery. It is for this reason that manufacturers recommend the use of demineralized or distilled water, since even potable tap water can contain high levels of minerals.
